Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

Multiple events and opportunities were hosted throughout the continuum each day to support the evolving themes to help people have a different view on aging and what it means to be active no matter where you live on campus. The Spelling Bee had 12 participants from Residential Living and Long-Term Care and an audience to watch them compete. After over 25 rounds a winner was determined! Very few people, especially in their late 70’s or early 80’s, can hike the moderate level 2-mile Prairie Earth Trail across the Tallgrass Prairie Reserve in Pawhuska, OK and get to experience the prairie up close where you are surrounded by bison and wildlife and five members of OMM took part in this adventure and were privileged to be part of that select few who hike into the prairie. Give a Hug Get a Hug Day made a huge touching impact on campus. Members wore a heart lanyard to let others know they were open to giving and getting a hug. Hugs are essential to good health and this avenue allowed people to hug freely and provide personal touch to friends and neighbors who normally go days without getting the opportunity to hug others.
