Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."
For 2025 LiveWell Groups Active Adult communities used the theme, “Permission to Play,” to support and engage our residents in learning and trying new skills, hobbies and interests. Highlights from this years Active Aging week programming included: An interactive demonstration on the art of Irish Stick Fighting, Travel Themed Pechakuchas (means “chit-chat” in Japanese and is a unique presentation style known for telling stories through images rather than text and are typically brief), a “Back in the Day Buffet” (where residents brought nostalgic menu items and chatted about memories around meals), and a cake picnic (a trending event that started in San Francisco) where your only entry requirement to the party is that you bring a cake! Additionally, we started a new wellness and life-long learning series focused on end-of-life planning and education with seminars from death doulas, long-term care planners, estate planners and more field experts. We held a screening of the documentary, “Join or Die,” and workshops on the importance of finding purpose, joy and meaning in your life. We rounded out the week with an intergenerational program with Scouts of America who created a geocache/letterboxing program around the grounds of our communities. The youth taught our residents about geocaching and letterboxing and then went on the hunt as a group to find the clues across the campus. Each year, we end our Active Aging week with a special Pink Mile walk within our communities. Our residents raise funds (matched by our company) for a local non-profit that supports breast cancer patients and survivors. Our staff and residents come together and walk through our communities for this special cause. All of this special Active Aging week is on top of our regular, robust calendar of events and programs for our residents. Each year, we utilize Active Aging week as an opportunity to encourage our residents to get out of their comfort zone and try new things. It is a dedicated time and space to positively push and challenge themselves. We focus on bringing in “out-of-the-box” programming and event trends that our residents may hear about. The greatest joy that comes from Active Aging week is the feedback from residents who learn or try something new to them because it was promoted during Active Aging week.
