Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

During Active Aging Week at Westminster, our focus was on courage, curiosity, and trying something new. Residents were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and embrace activities they may have never imagined themselves doing. From rock climbing to cardio drumming, from bocce ball to sampling healthy snacks at our Wellness Bar, the week was filled with opportunities to move, connect, and explore. A highlight was a presentation by Mark Middleton, who reminded us to “look fear in the face and run towards it.” His words inspired residents to challenge their assumptions about what they could do. Many tried activities for the first time—discovering that strength, balance, and endurance aren’t just physical, but also mental. Active Aging Week wasn’t just about fitness—it was about empowerment. Residents celebrated victories big and small, proving that age is no barrier to learning, laughing, and growing. The week reinforced that active aging is about courage: having the confidence to try new things, engage more fully in life, and surpass personal limits. These experiences left residents feeling stronger, more capable, and eager to continue exploring new adventures every day.
