Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."
During Active Aging Week, we celebrated with 2 events each day. We utilized our ASPIRE Wellness philosophy that includes 6 Dimensions of Wellness: Active, Spiritual, Purposeful, Intellectual, Relational, and Expressive. On Monday, we had a taize-style Sunrise Service and later that afternoon we hosted a Kickoff Tailgate party with food to create excitement around the events during the week. Tuesday, we had a Drum Circle instructed by a music therapist and encouraged everyone to sing along to the songs. Tuesday afternoon we had Colin Milner speak to our residents, community, and staff. Wednesday was a Chili Sale and all the proceeds went to a resident-led ministry that we have on campus. Wednesday afternoon, our Physical Therapy team presented a fall prevention discussion. Thursday morning, we had our first ever poetry reading where participants presented their gift of writing in the form of a short story or poetry. That afternoon, we hosted entertainment by John Paul Huckle, an opera singer from Pennsylvania. Friday we wrapped up the week by hosting a Golf Outing! The last event was balloon volleyball for our nursing residents! The week-long celebration was a success and most participants said that they can’t wait to celebrate next year!
