Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

Holland Home... We challenged the perception of aging during Active Aging Week with special physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and social programming centered around the theme of the cactus; celebrating its resilient ability to rise up in harsh conditions. Residents and staff celebrated their own resiliency during an unprecedented year. Residents were eager to try new fitness classes like Cardio Drumming, Tai Chi, Zumba Gold, and PraiseMoves. Friendly sporting events, including bean bag tournaments and a homerun filled wiffle ball game, were morale boosters for participants and spectators alike. The week offered residents the opportunity to experience new foods at demonstrations that featured themed items such as Grilled Napoles and Prickly Pear drinks from our creative Dining staff. Local food trucks and live music provided a social afternoon to celebrate the positivity of aging. Residents grew spiritually while enjoying the health benefits of spending time outside during encouraging outdoor bible studies, hymn sings and mental health discussions. All photos submitted were taken by a resident photographer who tirelessly shares his talent and captures these memories. Holland Home residents proved that regardless of age or physical condition, older adults can lead full, vibrant lives and are incredibly resilient, rising to meet any challenge.
