Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

Tapestry at Wesbrook Village...Active Aging Week at Tapestry at Wesbrook Village combined the 7 dimensions of wellness with trying a new activity. The theme of the week was “Crack the Code to Active Aging”, where residents would earn a word for trying one of the programs offered. Once they earned all the words, residents had to unscramble them to spell out the mystery phrase “Socialization slows cognitive decline and increases longevity”. Some of the programs we introduced were: a resident-lead discussion on loneliness, a community garbage pick up walk, make your own hand scrub, a tree canopy walk, a fall prevention workshop, and a resident-lead story writing workshop. Daily AAW activities included a morning stretch and meditation with employees in the lobby, smoothie bar social, and an afternoon ‘shake it out’ one-song dance party. To us, active aging represents pushing the limit of one’s comfort zone, and showing that one can learn and try something new at any age. Whether it’s writing a story for the first time, or having your first ever smoothie, Active Aging Week was about providing experiences and making memorable moments.
