Tapestry

Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

During our 2019 Active Aging Week we challenged our residents to try new things; from having a moment of mindfulness every morning to learning a new dance every afternoon. We hosted a variety of activities focused on all seven dimensions of wellness with a big focus on environmental wellness. We visited a local brewery to learn about their sustainable practises, received a lecture on World Nutrition, adopted a Herons nest from Stanley Park Ecology Society, and set up a Give One Get One table where small items could be traded or reused by someone new. One afternoon, we hosted a square dance with live band and caller. Staff and residents all got the chance to show off their moves. On International Day of Older Adults, we had a glamour shoot. Residents dressed up, enjoyed mimosas, and were pampered by Rodan cosmetics. In addition, we hosted a lecture on the positive uses of Cannabis and held a workshop on building your own wellness toolkit which focused on self-care practices. To top it off, we had an afternoon of mini massages. The week ended with a Wellness Getaway to Whistler! Residents had the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate in a beautiful location.
