Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

Each day of Active Aging Week we focused on a normal activity we offer and "redefined" it by changing something about it to get our residents challenged and out of their comfort zones. Whether it was taking them into a different environment or exposing them to a new way of thinking or doing things. Examples of how we did this included: -Turning our normal fitness class with our in-house personal trainer, Heidi, into a Jane Fonda themed workout complete with 80’s music and sweat hand bands to match -Taking our weekly yoga class outdoors in nature for fresh air and a new setting -Bringing in a dance teacher to teach an “American Bandstand” style of dancing class to our residents before our regular weekly social hour, which really got everyone moving for this! -Extending our weekly meditation class to a meditative nature walk (combining movement with mindfulness) -Building “self-care kits” that included a relaxing essential oil, uplifting spray, and refreshing body scrub Overall, we had 50 participants (out of 80 residents) partake in at least one of the seven in total activities we offered. We offered raffle tickets to participants for each activity they joined. With those tickets they bid on a variety of health focused prizes of their choosing (including a healthy human water bottle, whole foods gift certificate, foam roller, and more).
