Amherst Center for Senior Services

Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

The Amherst Center for Senior Service’s mission is to foster the physical and mental well-being of the older adults in our community. The promotion of Active Aging Week each year fits right in with our objective. This year, we partnered with Clover Communities, adult living options. Members of the Center and residents of Clover locations were offered an opportunity to partner in daily exercise classes held at the Center at no cost to them. The classes that were provided were; Fall Prevention, Jazz Exercise, Yoga & Meditation, Tai Chi, Firm & Flexible, Zumba, and Country Line Dancing. The participation exceeded our expectations. We had a minimum of 12 in each class and a maximum or 40. Clover Communities also organized five seminars to be held at the Center to promote active living. They were; Breathing Awareness, Aging & Sexual Health, Personal Inspiration, Maintaining Your Balance, and a Healthy Breakfast Demonstration. These programs were also a great success. We had approximately 15 participants in each class. We concluded the very active week with a performance by The Ukuladies. Four delightful older woman played their ukuleles with hilarious songs written just for our members and the residents of Clover.
