Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

To kick off Active Aging Week, we had a luau which included beach volleyball, smoothies, and hula hooping at our Assisted living. We also played football toss with our nursing home residents! Tuesday we had our Parkette's senior line dancing group perform for the Assisted Living tenants and we got them involved in some dancing! We also played Exercise BINGO with the nursing home residents. Wednesday, we planned to have our Healthiest State Walk but unfortunalety it rained and we had to cancel. Thursday, we played olympic games. We used sling shots to try and knock over cans or make it in a basket. We ended the week on Saturday with our Senior Dance where we "Danced Through the Decades" and were "Reliving our Homecoming Dance". The dance was open to the public and we had over 70 people attend. We had Faythe Kubik DJ from Waterloo IA. and she played a variety of music like Big Band, Polka, Line Dances, and Waltz! She did a great job of getting everyone engaged! Snacks and decorations were sponsored by Martin Brothers and Faas Construction and Excavating. The main sponsors of this event were St. Francis Manor, Seeland Park, and The Hammond Center for Assisted Living. People dressed up in clothing from their favorite decade and danced the night away! We also had FREE fitness classes open to the community to try all week!
