Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

Our goal this year (& every year) is to destigmatize the aging process. Our elders are not withering behind brick & mortar; they helped our community life team come up with the 2019 Active Aging Week on how to ‘Redefine Aging’. They decided to have a boot scootin’ good time all week to showcase what we do every day, all year round. They wanted Cowboy Joe back with his hee-hawin’ singing for a sing along. The Mayor of our City, Anne Burt accepted an invitation to attend immediately - the main event -& announced that she was anxious to see our lovely residents again! During the Active Aging week, a story was published about one of our residents on ‘loss’ of adult children to cancer, but how joy is abundant also through loss by laser focus resiliency. Resident June Fremont, who is a WWII Marine Vet, at 98 years old, was asked to be the keynote speaker at City Hall for Veteran’s Day this past week too. What an Active Aging Week it was! Many of our elders attended different classes that was offered, Older Adult Mental Health First Aid & Tonic Series all this week – continuing education. Some went on the St. Croix River for fishing & our community bus also took others to the Apple Orchard.
